Genuine Peugeot Oil
Why should you check and top up your oil?
Oil is to an engine what blood is to the human body – it simply can’t run without it. Engine oil acts as a cushion between moving parts, keeping engine compartments from coming into contact with each other, and providing protection from wear and tear.
The latest Peugeot engines give excellent performance and economy. You should aim to check your oil level every month – and always before a long journey. Please refer to your Warranty & Maintenance Handbook for further advice.
What does engine oil do?
In simple terms, it lubricates, protects, cleans and cools your engine. As well as reducing friction and preventing wear and tear, the oil cleans the engine of deposits, picking up any damaging debris which is sieved out through the oil filter. It also helps to transfer heat from inside the engine to maintain a safe operating temperature.
How do you check the oil level?
Checking your oil level and topping it up needn’t be any more complicated than filling up with fuel or screenwash.
Just follow these steps:
Switch off the engine: Before you start, park the car on a level surface and make sure the engine has been switched off for at least 5 minutes.
Locate and clean the dipstick: Open the bonnet, locate the dipstick and remove it before wiping off the dipstick with a clean cloth. Look at the oil level marks at the end of the dipstick.
Check oil level: Check your existing engine oil level by pushing the dipstick slowly all the way into tits tube, then pulling it out again. The oil level should be between the upper and lower level marks. If the level is near the lower mark, you need to top up using the right engine oil.
Top-up oil level: If you need to top up your oil, remove the oil filler cap (check your vehicles handbook if you are not sure about how to do it). Pour some oil, using a funnel if necessary. Wait a few seconds for the oil to drain down to the bottom of the engine and then re-check the level, taking care not to overfill it.
Peugeot Recommends
Regularly check and top up your oil with Peugeot recommended oil to prevent premature wear to the engine. It’s better to top up with the same grade of oil used for the last oil change, particularly for engines fitted with a FAP or Diesel Particulate Filter.
Peugeot recommends that Total Quartz Ineo First 0w30 is used in all latest Peugeot engines, including Stop Start. It is essential that this Quartz Ineo First 0w30 is used in all Blue HDi engines.
If you are not sure, speak to a Peugeot Customer Service Advisor, or refer to your Warranty and Maintenance Handbook which provides a list by engine type of the oil grade required.
What kind of Oil should I be using?
Engines and oil technology is changing and improving all the time so it can be tricky to know which oil to buy. For complete peace of mind, only use Peugeot recommended engine oils, such as Total Quartz range or PSA Engine Oil. They’re designed to maximise the performance of the engine and reduce emissions.
